UNCCD is a multinational commitment to promote sustainable land stewardship so that everyone has access to food, water, and economic opportunities. In order to address the worldwide loss of fertile lands and the escalation of droughts, the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (UNCCD COP17) is anticipated to bring together delegates from the convention’s 197 parties as well as leaders from government, business, civil society, scientists, Indigenous peoples, and local communities. The UNCCD COP17 Land and Drought Media Reporting Fellowship provides journalists with the opportunity to report firsthand from the conference and the field, interact with top experts and communities, and investigate the solutions influencing a more resilient future.
In collaboration with the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17), the UNCCD COP17 Media Reporting Fellowship 2026 will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from August 17–28, 2026. Six journalists will be chosen by the UNCCD COP17 Media Reporting Fellowship to cover one of the most important but underreported topics of our time: the increasing strain on the world’s land and its implications for global resilience, food and water security, and economic stability.
