STScI SASP Summer Program 2026 for International Students:

Applications are invited to apply for the STScI SASP Summer Program 2026 in United States. The STScI Summer Internship lasts for nine weeks. The summer internship will begin on June 1 and end on July 31, 2026. All countries are welcome to apply, and there is no application fee. For the Space Astronomy Summer Program (SASP), the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) hires roughly a dozen highly motivated college students each summer to work one-on-one with STScI staff and researchers on projects that include scientific writing, public outreach, software development, software engineering, data reduction and interpretation, and instrument calibration and support. Our scientific staff of astronomers, scientists, analysts, and engineers is at the forefront of some of the most fascinating astronomy being done today, including the study of our own solar system, the structure of the Milky Way, the makeup of nearby and distant galaxies, and dark energy.

Upper-division undergraduates with a significant interest in space-based astronomy, engineering, or public outreach are the main applicants for our competitive program. Students attend a range of lectures and are paired with mentors in addition to practical assignments. In addition to housing aid and travel reimbursement, students receive a stipend. Students are invited to participate in STScI’s Space Astronomy Summer Program (SASP) every year. International students from all over the world are eligible for this fully funded summer internship.
