Planning a Trip to Pakistan? Visa-on-Arrival Suspended, eVisa Now Mandatory

by awbtravelsnews | March 21, 2026

If you were planning a last-minute trip to Pakistan, here’s something worth knowing.

Pakistan has quietly stopped issuing visas-on-arrival. Along with that, the “Visa Before Arrival” option has also been paused. This was the fast-track system many travellers used to get approval within a day or two.

There hasn’t been any official announcement yet. So for now, it’s unclear if this is a short-term move or a longer policy shift.

No More Last-Minute Entry Options

Until recently, travellers from several countries had two relatively easy options:

Both are now unavailable.

What this really means is simple. You can’t rely on quick approvals anymore. If you don’t already have a visa, you won’t be able to board your flight.

e-Visa Is Now the Only Route

For now, all travellers who need a visa must apply through Pakistan’s standard e-Visa system. But here’s the catch.

Compared to the earlier one to two-day turnaround, this is a big change.

How to Apply for a Pakistan eVisa

If you’re planning a trip, here’s the simplest way to get your visa sorted.

1) Apply Online: Go to Pakistan’s official eVisa portal and create an account. Fill in your details and upload documents such as your passport and a photo.

2) Pay the Visa Fee: Fees vary by nationality and visa type, but for most travellers:

3) Wait for Processing:

4) Get Your eVisa: Once approved, you’ll receive the visa by email. Print a copy and carry it when you travel.

Key Details to Know

Tip: Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your trip to avoid last-minute stress.

Plan Early or Risk Delays

If Pakistan is on your travel list, planning ahead is now essential. Apply for your visa well in advance, ideally at least a month before your trip. This gives you a buffer in case of delays or additional document requests.

What Travellers Should Keep in Mind

Final Thoughts

Pakistan hasn’t explained why these options were paused, and there’s no timeline for when or if they will return.

For now, travel is still possible, just not spontaneous. If you’re heading there, give yourself time. This is one of those situations where planning ahead isn’t optional; it’s the only way.
