Nikon Small World Competition 2026 for International Applicants:
Applications are invited to apply for the Nikon Small World Competition 2026. Nikon’s Competition accepts entries from people all over the world who are interested in photomicrography (microscopy and photography through a microscope). The Nikon photo competition accepts a wide variety of subject matter and light microscopy techniques such as phase contrast, polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, dark field, confocal, deconvolution, and mixed approaches. Every year, the top 20 prizewinners’ work is presented in museums and science centers around the United States and Canada. The photos of the winners have also appeared on the covers of prestigious scientific and industrial periodicals. Submit your entries before the deadline for a chance to win prizes in this competition. A panel of judges will choose 20 finalists in the still image category and 5 finalists in the digital video category based on their creativity, originality, informational substance, technical ability, and artistic and visual impact. Judges may elect to grant separate Honorable Mention and Images of Distinction awards to some contestants in this global photography competition.
The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition is accessible to everyone interested in microscopy and microscope photography. The video contest, called Small World In Motion, is open to any digital time-lapse photography or film shot under a microscope. This international contest also includes a video competition called ‘Small World In Motion,’ which accepts any video or digital time-lapse photography taken through a microscope. The Nikon Photo Competition was established in 1975 to recognize and appreciate the work of those interested in photography under the light microscope. This international photography and videography competition provides a premier venue for photomicrographers from a variety of scientific disciplines. Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants are eligible for Nikon Small World Competition 2026 who meets the following criteria:
- Participants must be at least 18 years old to be eligible.
- Participants should not be Nikon employees, agents, or associates.
- Participants should not be affiliated with any competitive microscope or camera manufacturers.
- Image submissions must be in .jpeg, .png, .psd, or .tiff format with good resolution.
- AI-generated images/videos are not permitted as entries.
- The entry images/videos should be obtained using a light microscope. Images captured with an electron microscope or any other microscope that does not use optical light technology will not be approved.
- Macro photography is not permitted.
- Images/videos that have already won an award or photomicrography competition are ineligible.
- All information should be submitted in English.
- Submissions should not violate anyone’s rights.
- Submission entries should not criticize the sponsor, administrator, or any other individual or entity.
- Submissions should not include brand names, logos, trademarks, web URLs, names, addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses.
- Entries must not contain viruses, Trojan horses, worms, bots, spyware, or other computer code.
- Entries cannot contain information that is inappropriate, indecent, discriminatory, obscene, hateful, tortious, defamatory, or illegal.
- Each contestant is allowed to upload and submit up to three photos and videos.
- Entrants must have the right and authority to submit their entries.
