IndiGo To Pay Affected Passengers From December 26 After Major Cancellations

by awbtravelsnews | December 23, 2025

IndiGo will begin compensating passengers affected by its massive flight disruptions earlier this month, starting December 26, following clear instructions from the civil aviation ministry.

According to some reports, the government told IndiGo last week to start paying affected travellers who suffered due to the massive flight cancellations between December 3 and December 9. During that time, thousands of flights were cancelled or heavily delayed. These three days caused major chaos at airports across India.

₹10,000 Vouchers and Extra Payment for Stranded Passengers

Passengers who were stuck at airports for long hours will get a travel voucher worth 10,000 rupees. On top of that, they will receive another 5,000 to 10,000 rupees based on the rules set by the government.

IndiGo officials said that the airline will pay passengers who booked directly on its website first because the airline already has their details.

Those who booked through travel agents or online travel portals will also get compensation, but IndiGo needs to collect their information first.

DGCA and Air Seva to Oversee the Process

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has stated that it wants to ensure every affected passenger receives payment. The DGCA has been instructed to make this happen. The ministry will monitor the progress through the Air Seva portal.

Refund Delays for Some Bookings

IndiGo has already processed refunds for the disrupted flights. But many passengers who booked through online travel agencies say they haven’t received their money yet.

The airline says it has already sent refunds without any deductions and that it is now the responsibility of the travel portals to pass the money to customers.

Last week, the DGCA met with these online agencies and instructed them to release full refunds without keeping any amount.

Thousands of Flights Affected Across India

The disruption was massive. IndiGo cancelled 4,354 flights between December 1 and 9. More than 2,500 domestic flights and 51 international flights were cancelled on just December 3, 4 and 5.

The upcoming compensation rollout should give some relief to the thousands of passengers who faced cancellations and long delays earlier this month.
