India’s airport experience with DigiYatra is changing fast, and frequent flyers are starting to notice the difference.
To make it even better, India has just expanded DigiYatra, a facial-recognition-based boarding system, to six more airports. At the same time, passenger facilities like low-cost cafés, free Wi-Fi, Kids Zones, and airport libraries are also growing.
DigiYatra Now Live at 6 New Airports
The facial recognition system has started operations at the following airports:
- Surat Airport (STV)
- Vijayapura Airport (VDY)
- Mangaluru International Airport (IXE)
- Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV)
- Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI)
- Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur (NAG)
With this, DigiYatra is now available at as many as 30 airports across India.
The system allows passengers to move through airport entry and security checks using facial recognition instead of showing a physical ID at multiple points.

DigiYatra App Downloads Jump to 1.9 Crore
The growth has been sharp. By November 2025, the DigiYatra app crossed 1.9 crore downloads. For comparison, it had only 38 lakh downloads at the end of 2023.
That’s a huge jump in less than two years.
What this tells you is simple. More travellers are opting for contactless entry, especially frequent flyers who want faster airport movement.
Udan Yatri Café: Affordable Food at Airports
Airport food prices are often a sore point. That’s where Udan Yatri Café comes in. New cafés have opened at:
- Coimbatore (CJB)
- Surat (STV)
- Mumbai (BOM)
- Thiruvananthapuram (TRV)
- Mangaluru (IXE)
Prices are simple and affordable:
- Tea: Rs 10
- Coffee: Rs 20
- Samosa: Rs 20
- Water bottle: Rs 10
For regular travellers, this is a welcome relief from high airport pricing.
Free Wi-Fi, Kids Zones and Flybraries
Passenger comfort is also getting attention.
- Free Wi-Fi is now available at 39 airports.
- Kids Zones have been introduced at 7 airports.
- Flybraries are now available at 21 airports after adding 5 new ones.
Flybrary is a simple concept. Pick up a book, read it at the airport, and return it. You can even take it along and return it later. Travellers can also donate books for others to read.
It’s a small idea, but it makes waiting time more meaningful.
What This Means for Travellers
Here’s the practical takeaway.
If you’re flying from any of the 30 DigiYatra airports, downloading the app can save time at entry gates. Frequent flyers will benefit the most.
At the same time, affordable cafés and improved facilities show a shift toward passenger-friendly airports.
Indian airports are slowly becoming easier to navigate, less stressful, and slightly more affordable. And for regular travellers, that makes a real difference.
