Indian airlines are slowly restarting more flights to the Gulf after days of travel disruption linked to the ongoing conflict in parts of West Asia.
Thousands of travellers have been affected after several countries restricted or closed their airspace. Airlines were forced to cancel or reroute flights, leaving many passengers stranded across the region.
Now, Indian authorities are trying to bring the situation back to normal by adding more flights between India and major Gulf destinations.
Over 1,600 Flights Cancelled So Far
According to India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the disruption has already led to a large number of flight cancellations.
So far:
- 1,221 flights operated by Indian airlines have been cancelled
- 388 flights operated by foreign airlines have also been cancelled
Many of these flights were scheduled on busy routes between India and the Gulf, which are heavily used by workers, business travellers, and families.
58 Flights Planned Between India and the Gulf
To help stranded passengers, Indian airlines are increasing the number of flights on March 4, 2026. A total of 58 flights are planned between India and key Gulf cities.
The breakdown is as follows:
- 30 flights by IndiGo
- 23 flights by Air India and Air India Express
- Remaining flights by other Indian carriers
These flights include both regular services and additional operations to clear the passenger backlog.
24 Flights Already Operated Earlier
The Ministry also said that 24 flights were operated on March 3 by Indian airlines to help move stranded passengers.
These flights were part of an initial effort to restore connectivity while airlines adjusted routes and schedules due to restricted airspace in parts of West Asia.
Airlines Using Alternative Flight Routes
Because some airspace remains restricted, airlines are changing flight paths to avoid sensitive areas.
This means many long-haul flights are now taking longer alternative routes, which can increase travel time. Airlines are adjusting schedules gradually as the situation evolves.
Officials say the changes are being made carefully to keep passengers safe while restarting services.
Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status
Authorities are urging travellers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Schedules may still change depending on how the airspace situation develops. Passengers are also advised to:
- Check updates directly with their airline
- Follow announcements from official government sources
- Avoid relying on unverified social media posts
With the situation still evolving, more changes to flight schedules are possible in the coming days. Airlines are expected to keep adjusting operations until normal routes across West Asia reopen fully.
