Travellers arriving at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) from Ebola-affected countries are now being asked to follow stricter health checks and report symptoms immediately.
The advisory was issued after Indian health authorities reviewed the country’s preparedness for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), following fresh concerns linked to outbreaks in parts of Africa.
Which Countries Are Listed as High Risk?
According to the Delhi Airport’s travel advisory, passengers arriving from or transiting through the following countries should stay alert for symptoms:
- Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
- Uganda
- South Sudan
Airport officials have placed these countries in the “high-risk” category due to ongoing Ebola concerns.
Delhi Airport Issues Ebola Advisory
The advisory asks passengers to report to airport health officials if they feel unwell or notice symptoms linked to the Ebola Virus. Symptoms mentioned include:
- Fever
- Weakness or fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Sore throat
- Unexplained bleeding
Passengers who had direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a suspected or confirmed Ebola patient are also being told to immediately inform airport health officers before immigration clearance.
21-Day Monitoring Period for Travellers
Delhi Airport has also advised travellers to monitor their health for up to 21 days after arrival.
Anyone who develops symptoms during this period should seek medical help quickly and inform doctors about their recent travel history. Health authorities say early reporting can help reduce the risk of further spread.

Why India Issued the Advisory
The move comes shortly after a high-level review meeting chaired by India’s Union Health Secretary to assess Ebola preparedness across states and airports.
Health authorities are increasing screening and awareness measures as global agencies continue monitoring the outbreak situation in Africa.
According to reports, dozens of Ebola cases have already been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also warned that the actual scale of the outbreak could be larger than reported.
What Is Ebola Virus Disease?
Ebola is a serious viral disease that spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people or contaminated surfaces and materials.
The disease can also spread through contact with the bodies of people who died from Ebola.
While Ebola outbreaks are usually concentrated in parts of Central and East Africa, international travel advisories are often issued to help airports and travellers detect symptoms early and prevent cross-border transmission.
US Imposes Travel Restrictions and Suspends Visa Services Amid Ebola Outbreak
In a similar step, the United States has introduced a 30-day travel restriction for certain foreign nationals who recently visited DR Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan following the latest Ebola outbreak.
The US has also temporarily suspended visa services in all three countries. The move affects tourist, student, business, and immigrant visa applicants, though visas that have already been issued remain valid.
What This Means for International Travellers
For most travellers, there is no reason to panic. The advisory is mainly a precautionary step aimed at improving screening and awareness at airports.
Still, passengers travelling to or through affected regions should:
- Follow local health guidelines
- Avoid contact with sick individuals
- Maintain good hygiene practices
- Monitor symptoms after travel
- Cooperate with airport screening procedures
Airports worldwide regularly issue similar health advisories during outbreaks to reduce risks and improve public safety for international passengers.
