Australia Expands Immi App to 34 Countries, Making Visa Biometrics Easier

by awbtravelsnews | December 11, 2025

If you plan to apply for an Australia visa any time soon, here’s an important update. The Department of Home Affairs has expanded the Australian Immi App to 34 countries.

Visa applicants from these countries can now submit their facial biometrics and passport details straight from their phone. This makes the biometrics process easier, without the need to visit the biometric collection centre, and that too without paying any extra fees.

Making the Visa Process Simpler

The Immi App was first launched in October last year for a smaller group of countries, including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand.

It was designed for applicants who had already provided biometrics in the past and wanted a quicker, easier way to verify their identity for new visa applications.

Now, with the latest expansion, travellers from 34 countries can use the app. The Department also confirmed that the final global rollout is expected in early 2026, which will make the app available to all remaining countries in the biometric collection program.

How the App Works

After downloading the app, eligible applicants can verify their identity by scanning their passport and submitting a facial image directly from their smartphone.

The system securely sends the data to the Department of Home Affairs. Applicants who qualify will receive a letter or email invitation to use the app.

This digital process aims to reduce waiting times and travel costs for visa applicants, while improving security and convenience.

Who Gets Access and How It Works

Not everyone can just download the app and start. You must:

Once you get the invitation, you download the Australian Immi App and follow the steps to scan your face and submit passport details. Everything is uploaded securely through the phone.

What’s Next

With this expansion, more travellers can now complete key visa steps without leaving home. The Department says it will continue testing and improving the Immi App, with a goal of making it available worldwide by early 2026.

This move reflects Australia’s push to modernise its visa system and make international travel smoother and more secure for everyone.
