Flying into Vietnam’s beach capital just got a little easier. Vietnam has added Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), the main gateway to Nha Trang, to its Pre-Arrival Information (PAI) system. The online arrival declaration allows foreign travellers to submit their details before departure and receive a QR code to present at immigration.
For foreign travellers heading to Nha Trang’s growing resort scene, this means one less form to fill out after landing and potentially shorter queues at the border.

What Is Vietnam’s Pre-Arrival Information System?

Think of PAI as a digital arrival card, not a visa. Travellers can submit personal details, trip information and stay-related data online up to three days before arriving in Vietnam. Once completed, the system generates a QR code that should be saved on a phone or printed for presentation on arrival.
The move is part of Vietnam’s wider push to digitise border procedures and reduce congestion at major airports.
Airports Currently Using Vietnam’s PAI System
With Cam Ranh now onboard, Vietnam’s Pre-Arrival Information System is available at five international airports:
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), Ho Chi Minh City
- Noi Bai International Airport (HAN), Hanoi
- Da Nang International Airport (DAD), Da Nang
- Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC), Phu Quoc
- Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), Nha Trang
These airports handle a large share of Vietnam’s international arrivals, including visitors from India.
A Clear Direction for Vietnam’s Border Policy
Many countries are introducing digital pre-arrival systems to manage rising visitor numbers, and Vietnam is now following suit. The pattern is clear: fewer paper forms, more advanced data collection, and faster processing at the airport.
As Vietnam continues to attract record tourist arrivals, expect more airports and border checkpoints to join the system in the coming months.
What Indian Travellers Should Remember
PAI does not replace Vietnam’s visa requirements. Indian passport holders who need a visa must still obtain a valid Vietnam e-Visa or another eligible visa before departure. The online declaration is simply an additional arrival procedure designed to speed up entry formalities.
Travellers eligible for visa-free entry must also continue to meet existing rules on passport validity, length of stay and travel purpose.
Take
We see this as a practical upgrade for travellers, especially during peak holiday periods. It won’t replace a visa, but it should make arriving in Vietnam faster and less stressful.
