by awbtravelsnews | May 16, 2026

Ghana is getting ready to launch its new electronic visa system, and travellers can already access the official online portal before the expected rollout on May 25, 2026.

The new platform, operated by the Ghana Immigration Service with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allows visitors to apply for visas completely online.

The portal is available at Ghana e-Visa Portal.

Ghana e-Visa System to Make Applications Fully Online

The new Ghana e-Visa platform is designed to simplify the visa process for international travellers. Applicants can:

Once approved, travellers will receive their e-Visa by email. They can show it digitally or carry a printed copy when arriving in Ghana.

The government first announced plans for the e-Visa earlier this year. Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that the Cabinet approved the new system in April.

Ghana e-Visa Fees Revealed

One of the biggest talking points is the visa cost. The fees listed on the portal are higher than those of many other African e-Visas, especially for fast-track processing.

Single-Entry Ghana e-Visa Fees

Multiple-Entry Ghana e-Visa Fees

Visa Type Processing Time Fee
Single-Entry e-Visa Standard (72 Hours) $260
Single-Entry e-Visa Priority (48 Hours) $338
Single-Entry e-Visa Express (5 Hours) $442
Multiple-Entry e-Visa Standard (72 Hours) $468
Multiple-Entry e-Visa Priority (48 Hours) $608
Multiple-Entry e-Visa Express (5 Hours) $796

The final fees could still change when the system officially launches later this month.

Types of Ghana Visas Available Online

The new system will cover several travel categories, not just tourism.

Visa options listed on the portal include:

This shows Ghana plans to move most visa applications to a digital system.

Documents Required for Ghana e-Visa

Travellers will still need to prepare documents before applying online.

Tourist Visa Documents

Tourists may need:

Business Visa Documents

Business travellers may also need:

Free ETA for African Travellers

Ghana also plans to introduce free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for some African travellers from May 25, 2026.

According to the portal, nationals from ECOWAS countries, the African Union, and some Caribbean nations may qualify for a free ETA instead of paying for a regular visa.

However, travellers will still need to complete an online application and receive approval before travelling.

The full launch later this month is expected to confirm which nationalities qualify and how long the authorisation will remain valid.

Final Thoughts

Ghana’s upcoming e-Visa system will definitely make the visa process faster and more convenient for international travellers. However, visitors should still check the latest visa fees, ETA eligibility rules, and document requirements before planning their trip.
