Chad, the Central African country known for its Sahara desert landscapes, wildlife parks, and cultural diversity it now changing how foreign travellers apply for visas.

Travellers heading to Chad will soon need to apply for their visas completely online.

The government has confirmed that all visa applications for Chad must now be submitted through its official e-Visa portal. The new system becomes mandatory from May 11, 2026, marking a major shift away from paper-based visa procedures.

Chad Makes e-Visa Mandatory

The announcement came from Chad’s E-Visa Sub-Directorate under the Ministry of Public Security and Immigration in an official notice issued on May 8, 2026.

From May 11 onward, travellers can no longer submit new visa applications manually or through older procedures. Instead, applications must be completed online through the official evisa.td platform.

The portal has actually been active since December 2024, but authorities are now making it the only accepted channel for visa processing.

Using the system, travellers can:

• Start a visa application online
• Fill out application forms
• Upload documents
• Pay visa fees digitally
• Track application status online

The move is designed to make the process faster and easier while improving security checks and applicant data management.

New Rules Backed by Government Decrees

The online visa rollout is part of new immigration rules introduced by the Chadian government under:

• Decree No. 2299/PR/PM/MSPI/2025
• Joint Order No. 033/PR/PMFBEPC/MSPI/2026

According to the government, the e-Visa system is meant to simplify and speed up visa processing while keeping traveller information secure.

Authorities also confirmed that travellers may receive either:

• Single-entry visas
• Multiple-entry visas

This will depend on the visa category and approval conditions.

Diplomatic Visas Still Handled Separately

Not every visa type will move online.

Diplomatic and courtesy visas will continue to be processed by Chadian embassies and diplomatic missions abroad. These applications remain under the authority of Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For regular tourists, business travellers, and most foreign visitors, however, the e-Visa portal will now be the main gateway for entry approval.

Important Deadline: May 21, 2026

Chadian authorities have also introduced a short transition period. Visas issued before the online-only system starts will remain valid until their expiry date. However, there is one important warning for travellers.

After May 21, 2026, any visa issued outside the official evisa.td platform will no longer be accepted for entry into Chad.

The government also confirmed that manual entry authorisations have been permanently cancelled.

This means travellers should avoid using unofficial visa channels or outdated procedures after the deadline.
