Stowers Summer Program 2026 for International Students:
Applications are invited to apply for the Stowers Summer Program 2026 in United States. All Students from all around the world are welcome to apply for this eight-week program. The summer program will run from June 1 through July 24, 2026, at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Missouri. All costs are paid, and there is no application fee. This program’s goal is to encourage enthusiastic students to seek careers in biological research. Summer fellows will work under the mentor’s supervision. Under the direction and supervision of a Principal Investigator or a senior lab member, Summer Scholars do full-time research for eight weeks during the summer. Weekly scientific seminars covering a variety of study areas are mandatory for all scholars. Additional events include a weekly lunch where students can learn from Stowers Scientists about various scientific vocations and research areas. Scholars exhibit their findings in an all-Institute poster session at the program’s conclusion. The Stowers Foundation generously donates to the Summer Scholars program.
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is an autonomous, nonprofit organization dedicated to fundamental biological research. Following their diagnosis and recovery from cancer, James E. Stowers Jr. and Virginia Stowers founded the Stowers Institute in 1994. Principal Investigator labs and key Technology Centers that actively study biology in fields like development and regeneration, evolutionary biology, genetics and genomics, molecular and cellular biology, neurology, and systems biology are located in it. - Laboratories studying Chromatin and gene expression regulation, chromosome structure and cell division, computational biology, modeling and technology, developmental genetics and cell biology, developmental neuroscience, neuroscience, stem cells and regeneration, and other basic biological processes.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time availability from June 1 through July 24, 2026, for the duration of the program (school calendars may allow for a small delay; please inquire via email)
- Completed a year of undergraduate coursework prior to the program’s start.
- 18 years of age or older before the commencement date of the program
- Enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate degree program in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, physics, computing, engineering, mathematics, or a similar discipline
- Both domestic and foreign students are welcome.
- Available to previous Summer Scholars
- Applications are not accepted from students enrolled in or starting a master’s, medical, or doctoral program (in Fall 2026).
- Enrollment in a combined BS/MS program, which is comparable to an undergraduate program in the United States, must occur within the first four years of the program.
