MPIA Summer Internship Program 2026 for International Students:

Applications are invited to apply for the MPIA Summer Internship Program 2026 in Germany. All International Applicants are eligible for this internship. For bachelor’s and master’s students worldwide who want to gain practical experience in astronomy research and instrument development, MPIA provides fully funded internship opportunities. IELTS or TOEFL is not necessary, and there is no application fee. Students participating in PhD programs or those who earned a master’s degree in 2024 or earlier are ineligible for the internship. International students from all over the world can apply for the fully funded MPIA Summer Internship in Germany in 2026. The internship will last for three months. The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg, Germany, will usually host the MPIA Summer Internship from May to September of 2026. For those pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in astronomy, the MPIA provides a completely paid internship. The MPIA Summer Student Internship is not available to students who have already graduated. Depending on the students’ academic schedules, visits may occur throughout the year, although the main internship program usually occurs in the summer, from May to September.

The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) studies everything from planets and stars to galaxies and black holes in an effort to understand the nature of our universe. In order to support this objective, we conduct theoretical and observational research, develop and produce telescope instrumentation, train young researchers for careers in astronomy and beyond, and share our findings with the public and scientific community. Additionally, we work hard to make MPIA a welcome, inclusive, well-organized, and intellectually stimulating workplace for our diverse, global community. Eligibility Criteria:

• Candidates from underdeveloped nations will receive at least two internships.
• Students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in astronomy, such as members of ethnic minorities, refugees or their children, people with disabilities, and first-generation college students, are especially encouraged to apply.
• The MPIA Internship is open to candidates from worldwide.
• Accessible to students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
• After the internship is over, the student needs to get their degree. Students pursuing master’s degrees are not subject to this.
• At the start of the internship in May or June of 2026, bachelor’s degree candidates must have completed at least four semesters.
• Applicants must be accessible for a period of three months.

How to Apply for MPIA Summer Internship Program?

1. All application materials must be submitted using our online application system.
